1 Day Lake Mburo National Park Safari

1 Day Lake Mburo National Park Safari

Our 1 Day Lake Mburo National Park Safari takes you to visit Lake Mburo National Park which is home to several unique species of animals and birds not observed elsewhere in Uganda. It is the only national park in Uganda with a large number of impalas (from which Kampala city derives its name), and only one of the three protected areas countrywide where the Burchell’s zebras can be seen. Other antelopes easily seen in Lake Mburo National Park are topis, bushbucks, common duikers, oribis, Defassa waterbucks, and Bofor reedbucks. The lake and lush fringing vegetation support healthy populations of buffalos, warthogs, bush-pigs and hippopotamus. Large herds of the majestic elands roam the park too.

In the swampy areas of the park, it is possible to see sitatungas, a swamp-dwelling antelope. Only two diurnal primates have been seen in Lake Mburo National Park,  the vervet monkey and olive baboon. At Lake Mburo National Park, nocturnal calls of the spotted hyena can be heard through the night. Leopards, side-striped jackals and various smaller predators are also present, most visibly the white-tailed mongoose and three otter species reside near the lakes.

Your Msafiri Tours guide will pick you up at 6 am to start your drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Drinking water is provided on this journey by Msafiri Tours. The safari around the park wil be 3 hours long, accompanied by a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide. You may view buffalos, zebras, leopards, a variety of antelopes, warthogs, and one of the few places to view zebras in Uganda.

After the game drive safari, you will stop for lunch along the Lake (there are 5 lakes within the park), and then take a boat ride along the shore. You will view crocodiles and lots of hippos with a variety of birds. For most Msafiri Tours clients, this is the highlight of the safari.

Say your goodbyes to the park’s friendly staff as you start your drive back to Kampala. You will drive through a magnificent hilly country and lush cultivation on an approximately four-hour journey. En route,  we will stop at the Equator for photographs and ‘polar-water experiment’, then stop at Mpambire Uganda drum village, where you will see a local community popular for making drums and crafts sold on their roadside stalls.

We will reach Kampala in the evening
